1. Will Gumout® Fuel Additives harm oxygen sensors, catalytic converters, hoses, fuel lines or fuel level sensors?
No, when used as directed, Gumout® Fuel Additives will not degrade or harm oxygen sensors, catalytic converters, hoses, fuel lines or fuel level sensors.
2. How often should I use Gumout® Fuel Additives?
While all Gumout® Fuel Additive products include directions for use and a recommended usage interval, each product has also been through rigorous "no harm" testing and can be used as often as every tankful of fuel. Products recommended for use in every tank should be used every tank as indicated on the label. The performance benefits of products recommended for use in extended intervals will diminish with each subsequent un-treated tank of fuel to a point where a re-treatment may be required again. Our usage recommendations on these products are based on testing in numerous vehicle types. The benefits in your vehicle may vary. For best results, use these products at least as often as recommended on package label.
3. Are Gumout® Fuel Additives recommended for use in 2-stroke engines?
While most Gumout® Fuel Additives are not recommended for use in 2-stroke engines, we do offer a couple of 2-stroke specific products. Gumout® Small Engine Gas Treatment is recommended for use in all 2-stroke engines, while Pennzoil® Marine Fuel System Cleaner is specifically formulated for use in 2-stroke marine engines.
4. Are Gumout® Fuel Additives recommended for use in small 4-stroke engines typically found in motorcycles, ATVs, lawn mowers, power equipment, and other like applications?
Yes, you may use any of the Gumout® Fuel Additives in these engines. The treat rate should be 1 ounce of Gumout® product per gallon of fuel.
5. Are Gumout® Fuel Additives recommended for use in diesel engines?
Gumout® offers Diesel fuel specific products for use in Diesel engines.
6. Can I clean parts with Gumout® Fuel Additives or use it as a parts cleaning solution?
Gumout® Fuel Additives are not recommended for use as parts cleaning solution.
However, Gumout® offers a line of maintenance aerosol products for
cleaning specific parts of an engine or car (Brake Parts Cleaner,
Air Intake and Throttle Body, Carb and Choke, and Engine Degreaser/Cleaners).
See specific use instructions on each product.
7. Why do I have to put Gumout® Fuel Additives into the fuel on a nearly empty tank?
You don't, but for best results and to facilitate better mixing with your fuel,
we recommend you add to a nearly empty tank, fill the tank, and then do not
fill again until nearly empty. This will allow you to get the most benefit
from the product chemistry due to longer use at the recommended effective concentration.
8. What's the difference in Fuel Injector Cleaner and Fuel System Cleaner?
Fuel Injector Cleaners are designed to clean through the fuel injector system and Fuel System Cleaners not only clean the fuel injector system, but go beyond, to help remove deposits from pistons, intake valves, and combustion chambers.
9. Can I double the amount of Gumout® Fuel Additive suggested on the label?
While we do not recommend use other than directed on the product label, each product has been through rigorous "no harm" testing and may be used as often as every tankful. However, a stronger concentration of product may not provide any additional performance benefit over the recommended dosage.
10. What happens if I put the Gumout® into a full tank of gas instead of a nearly empty tank?
It takes a little longer for the additive to mix thoroughly with your fuel. While there would be no negative effects, to get optimum results, the product should be thoroughly mixed with your fuel. This is accomplished more efficiently by filling a nearly empty tank.
11. Can I use Gumout® Fuel Additives in a vehicle designed to use E-85 fuel?
These vehicles are designed to run on multiple fuel types, including E-85. Gumout® Fuel Additives will only address fuel deposits resulting form gasoline, and not any issues related to E85. We do however recommend strict adherence to the oil change interval specified by the manufacturer when using E-85 fuel.
12. Can I use the Gumout® Fuel Injector Cleaner in an engine with a carburetor?
Yes, carburetor deposits are typically easier to clean than those found in fuel
injectors and the chemistry used in the Injector Cleaner products will also
effectively clean carburetors.
